You have every right to express yourself. We are used to intolerable heat in Australia and we all whinge about it. This is your honest journal of your life so continue with it as you see fit ❤️😊

It's really strange reading your latest post whilst actually being here and living the experience. The Gite is utterly charming and the hard work that you have put into it is very much appreciated.

Dinner last night was really lovely and Tim the perfect host and very knowledgeable, even on the subject of tractors 🚜, who knew? 😉. Whilst we never got the chance to meet you we did think of you slaving over a hot oven in your kitchen turning out such wonderful food so your efforts were very gratefully received.

Today hopefully is looking a little cooler, so we shall go for another chiropractic treatment down your long driveway and off on another adventure!

So glad you enjoyed dinner Kenny. And it was lovely to meet you both in the garden during your stay. Come back and see us again another time. ♥️

Oh my goodness, no need to apologise at all. The heat has been utterly unbearable. We were in Laval on Tuesday and it was 44 degrees! We ate only salad with nothing cooked at home all week as the oven or hob being on was not an option. I'm so sorry for you that you were hosting and having to cook. I'm hugely relieved that it's starting to drop and this next week looks more normal for this time of year. Thanks for the recipe and the cushions are gorgeous! Best wishes for the (cooler) week ahead.

You are keeping your journal real Rebecca. Everyone in Europe gets it - we are all boiling, can't sleep, don't want to cook a meal, no sense of humour - it's real! Just think, next year you will look back on this post and think "phew, thank goodness this summer is easy compared to last year!" 😀

I so hope you'll be right about next summer...🫠

My goodness Rebecca, you're a real hero for working so hard in that heat. I would have given

everyone salad! And thank you so much for your lovely journal and recipe. I really hope next week

is going to be cooler for you.

Feel so sorry for you with that heat. Intolerable. 🥰

Cushions are gorgeous …fabric so lovely. Well done you getting them done when you were sweltering.

I hear you when you see your plants shrivelling… it was like that here the last two summers. Watering twice a day and dead heading flowers that have barely just bloomed.

At least here it’s normal to have aircon. Many of my English cousins have it too now as the summer temps soared. I can’t understand the Global Warming deniers… the evidence is there for all to see.

I’ve had a joyous week with my bestie of 59 years. Eating, drinking, theatre, long conversations and laughter. Joined halfway by her mum and siblings. The memories have caused many laughs and tears. Just what I needed …other than a trip to France.

I hope your week brings cooler weather and time to recoup! xx

I understand how you feel I have been cleaning cupboards this week it has taken me three days to do 5. Your hard work is a credit to you and if I was staying with you it would be fine to make salads, and your peanut biscuits with strawberry ice cream yum. Take care of yourself love Janet Main.

Wow that was an emotional read and appreciate how enervating heat like that is if the house isn't right for it. we get those temperatures for a lot of the summer here in Cyprus - and we moan about it but we are able to retreat to an airconditioned room and have ac in the bedroom - don't think we could cope with months of it without. Hoping better (fresher) weather is on the way for you.

PS - if we were staying, grazing boards or something cold would be fine.

Nothing to apologise for, I hope the cooler weather is enjoyable for you and your family, and the cutting garden - and Monty and the cats.

What a weather, eh? I worried about my two Persian gentlemen with a thick fur coat getting overheated. You getting emotional is so normal. Heat is awful. Your journal is always a pleasure to read because it is so real. Hugs, dear.

If you didn’t pass comment on the unbearable heat your journal wouldn’t be authentic- we, your regular readers, may think you are superhuman with all you achieve daily but we also identify with the difficulties you reference ( even if we haven’t had the level of heat extremity you have endured).

Love the recipe you have posted- will be giving that a try for sure.

And love the cushions- beautiful colours; the salon must be looking amazing now. Well done to you both!

Oh Rebecca, HOW I feel for you! My youngest son is your colouring and he’s been suffering this week working in the unusual UK June temps. And France’s temps are much above ours! Cold food is fine in my book; most folk aren’t seeking hot laden plates in hot weather. So go with what you can cope with! It’ll be delicious I’m sure! x

No apology needed…we all feel the heat if not experiencing it ourselves! The cushions are delightful…so clever utubing inserting a zipper! Enjoy the cool to come! 👍🌹

No need to apologise! It was a great read and we are all suffering here in Europe. We have only one portable aircon unit in the bedroom in our rented house and this has been the room where we all spend most of our time in. I have been also very ill since Friday (adenovirus- thought Covid was bad this one is next level) and being this ill in this weather is yet another challenge and reason for me to be grumpy and in a bad mood most of the time… Hopefully it stays cooler for all of us at least for some time! Also, love the look of those peanut butter and ice cream cookies. The peanut butter cookies remind of me some very similar one my husband would make for me when I was pregnant - no flour just peanut butter and few other ingredients. On another note, just like others said - you’re a super hero doing all the work in this heat even when you thought it wasn’t much!

Phew, what a huge relief, we had much needed rain here last night in Central France. Heavy hail was forecast so much that the 2 local car showrooms removed all the cars from their forecourts, where they parked them I have no idea. In 2022 a hail storm 40 minutes from here destroyed the air ambulance. The weather is absolutely exhausting, you have both done amazingly well, cooking urgh!! My days too have started early, watering, horses in and then trying to keep everything as comfortable as possible during the day. I set up fans for the horses and have been hosing them several times a day and have come to the decision that I will have to have a complete change of plan for next years planting, as you are aware this is the second year in a row we have had these canicules. Thank you for naming the strong, very upright yellow weed that is gracing most of our garden and pathways, the only things that are doing well are the weeds!

Your writings this week were exactly how I have been feeling in this heat, it’s been unbearable I’m just thankful I didn’t have to ‘work’ & I could sit in front of the fan all day if I wanted to!

You passed through my mind many times this week!

So pleased the weather was much kinder (heat wise) for our visit earlier this month, hope it cools down for you soon, the cushions are lovely….something good came out of the heat!
